Property markets are cyclical. There are highs and lows with upward and downward tendencies in between, all of which can be influenced by a variety of factors. In the Algarve, the market is susceptible to the knock-on effect of economic events abroad, in particular the UK, homeland of most foreign buyers here, but fluctuations are usually less acute here than elsewhere.
The strength of the Algarve property market lies largely in the region’s exceptional attractions. While markets may wax and wane, attractions such as a great climate, natural beauty, social stability and an agreeable cosmopolitan life are here to stay. Ever since the region was first discovered by foreign buyers in the 1960’s, property has proved to be a solid investment with impressive growth rates. That is not going to change either, irrespective of economic hiccups elsewhere. What is changing quite dramatically – and for the better – is the quality of design and construction of homes and ways of making them more compatible with the environment. But this year the property market is suffering due to: The pound-euro Exchange rates and the global credit crunch have taken its toll in the sunny Algarve, according to Algarve Property Magazine editor, Len Port.
However, there is some significant silver lining.
If there was ever a right time to buy, that time is now. There is a bargain galore but there are good deals to be had in all of the Algarve.

Recessions come around every so often and shake things up, but the Algarve with its attractive features will always be a desirable and sunny place for your holidays or permanent living.
Clearly there are many people who are looking well beyond the doom and gloom into a bright future.
