A survey focusing on the residential tourism market conducted this summer by the Lisboan- based travel and tourism consultancy ILM-THR chief Executive Officer, Andrew Coutts, said the findings and conclusions of the survey were the result of more than 4.000 questionnaires, targeting residential property owners and potential owners, carried out in June and July . Concluded that 26% of those questioned at Faro Airport and in the central and eastern parts of the Algarve were staying in their own holiday accommodation. While a 38% were staying in hotels, 18% were renting accommodation and 14% were staying with family or friends. The survey concluded that 82% of owners did not consider purchasing their second home in parts of Portugal other than the Algarve, though 20% thought about Spain and 18% considered France, Italy and Greece. Just over 40% used savings to purchase their property.
